Responsibilities of a PEPP Course Coordinator:
Maintain Integrity of the Program
The American Academy of Pediatrics has involved many experts in the development of a quality PEPP curriculum. However, the quality of the course relies heavily on the PEPP Course Coordinator and Faculty. The Course Coordinator maintains the integrity of the program and assures that all minimum course requirements are met.
Select and Communicate with a PEPP Medical Advisor
It is the PEPP Course Coordinator's responsibility to identify a person to serve as the PEPP Medical Advisor for the course. The qualifications and responsibilities of this person are described in How to become a PEPP Medical Advisor. The name and address of the Medical Advisor must be indicated on the course roster so the American Academy of Pediatrics can recognize them with a formal letter following the course.
Select Appropriate Faculty
A Course Coordinator recruits, prepares, and supervises the Faculty for the course being coordinated. More information on the qualifications and responsibilities of Faculty can be found in the section titled How to become a PEPP Faculty member.
Ensure Participant and Faculty Evaluations for Course are Completed
The PEPP Steering Committee would like to continually improve the PEPP Course. Therefore, feedback from the participants and faculty in every course is very important. The PEPP Course Coordinator assures that each participant and each faculty member completes an evaluation form. The Course Coordinator is required to submit evaluation forms for the first course that they coordinate to the AAP. Course Coordinators are encouraged to submit evaluation forms for every course they coordinate.
Maintain Direct Communication with AAP
The Course Coordinator is responsible for submitting the course roster, and Participant and Faculty Evaluation Forms to the Academy for each PEPP Course. The Course Coordinator may also choose to notify the Academy of upcoming PEPP Courses that are open to the public. When notified of an upcoming PEPP Course, the Academy will add the course to a master list and www.PEPPsite.com of upcoming courses and interested individuals may be referred to your course. Coordinate Logistical Issues
The PEPP Course Coordinator manages logistical issues including everything from equipment, room reservations and registration, to catering and signage. More detailed information on planning the PEPP Course can be found in the Resource Manual section titled "Preparing for the PEPP Course." In some cases these responsibilities can be delegated.
Manage Course Budget
The PEPP Course Coordinator manages the course budget. An example of items to include in the PEPP Course budget can be found in the Resource Manual section titled "Preparing for the PEPP Course."
Address Educational Principles Within the Structure of The Course
The PEPP Course Coordinator is responsible for the educational quality of the PEPP Course. The Course Coordinator should assure that the course is delivered in a way that is consistent with modern adult learning theory and that the content of the course is maintained. Resource Manual section titled "Educational Principles" provides information on adult learning.
Be Present for Entire Course and Supervise All Aspects of the Course
The PEPP Course Coordinator needs to be present for the entire course. The Course Coordinator will supervise the registration process, and observe lectures, scenarios, and skill stations. The Course Coordinator needs to be prepared to intervene if necessary. This could involve teaching a segment of the course or redirecting a skill station or scenario.
